An EM Strategy for Ventricular Wall Motion Analysis

چکیده
Quantitative assessment of the motion and deformation variability of the heart has important implications for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases. In this paper, we propose a novel multiframe framework for left ventricular deformation analysis based upon expectation maximization (EM) principles. Myocardial boundaries are extracted using modified levelset strategy, and sparse corresponding boundary points are derived based on matching geometrical similarities. The left ventricle is modeled as an isotropic linear elastic material, and EM algorithm is employed to track tissue deformation over the entire cardiac cycle. Initial experiments have been performed with 2D cardiac MR image sequences.

Comparison of the myocardial perfusion and wall motion results by ECG-Gated 99mTc-MIBI SPECT, before and after CABG for evaluation of myocardial viability [Persian]
It is of value to determine the amount of viable myocardial tissue in patients suffering from chronic coronary artery disease and ventricular dysfunction. Having the capability of evaluating both myocardial perfusion and function, simultaneously, myocardial scanning by ECG-Gated is an appropriate method for this purpose. The aim of this study was to compare the results of myocardial perfu...
متن کاملMeasurement of Left Ventricular Myocardium Wall Instantaneous Motions with Echocardiographic Sequence Images
Background & Aims: One of the important aims of quantitative cardiac image processing is the clarification of myocardial motions in order to derive biomechanical behavior of the heart in the disease condition. In this study we presented a computerized analysis method for detecting the instantaneous myocardial changes by using 2D echocardiography images. Methods: The analysis was performed on th...
متن کاملSegmental Tissue Doppler Image-Derived Tei Index in Patients With Regional Wall Motion Abnormalities
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although the Tei index is a useful predictor of global ventricular function, it has not been investigated at the level of regional myocardial function. We therefore investigated the segmental tissue Doppler image derived-Tei index (TDI-Tei index) in patients with regional wall motion abnormalities. SUBJECTS AND METHODS We prospectively studied 17 patients (mean age 6...
متن کاملQuantitative left ventricular wall motion analysis: a comparison of area, chord and radial methods.
We were interested in divising a relatively simple quantitative technique that could be used on a routine clinical basis for wall motion analysis. Three quantitative methods of left ventricular (LV) regional analysis were compared in the 30 degrees right anterior oblique and 60 degrees left anterior oblique projection. The control group consisted of 17 patients with qualitatively normal LV wall...
متن کاملQuantitative regional curvature analysis: a prospective evaluation of ventricular shape and wall motion measurements.
To overcome the assumptions and approximations mandated by the use of traditional wall motion methodologies, a method was recently developed for measuring ventricular shape based on quantitative curvature analysis of ventricular outlines. This study was designed to assess prospectively the performance of this algorithm, to compare it to traditional wall motion measurements (centerline method), ...
